You can ask almost anyone you know if they have ever tried healthy dieting and their answer will be yes. Whether it's to gain weight, lose weight, or just to be healthier. Now, if you ask them if it worked, a majority of them will answer with a no. It is time consuming, you don't WANT to do it (but you have to, if you want to be healthier), you don't feel a difference, you are constantly hungry, or it is too expensive.
I have tried plenty of diets, and within a week I quit and binge eat junk food. Well, that's worse than just staying on my normal diet. I have done it so many times, and decided I am better off eating my normal day to day foods. Have I cut out of foods? Yes, but in moderation.
For example: I used to eat so much ramen noodles! Extremely unhealthy amount. I didn't cut it out of my diet though. Why would I do that, making myself miserable craving it? I started of cutting out a quarter of my intake. Once I felt comfortable cutting more out, I cut another quarter. I didn't push myself too much, because I knew I would revert back to where I started. I did that same process until I was only having it maybe once a week. That was over a year ago and I rarely having it. I did that with my most unhealthy foods. I try and substitute them with things I like, but are healthier. A fruit or vegetable. It is a lot less stressful, I don't crave food. The way I stay healthy is through exercise and even that I don't do anything crazy. At home cardio and a little bit of strength.
If you want to lose a good amount of weight, go see your family doctor. Make sure there isn't any concerning. I go to the doctor for regular health checkups and physicals. I have a few health issues that make it harder to lose and maintain weight. PCOS, depression, and hypothyroidism. I managed to lose 40lbs with this strategy, so I guess I'm doing something right.
It took me over a year to lose all of the weight, but losing weight slowly is better than fast. It's easier to keep the weight off. Don't think if you eat less, it will be better for you. I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between meals. It keeps me from eating too much in one sitting, but not eating regularly will cause your body to go into starvation mode and will store fat. That is what happened to me. I only ate once or twice a day and it slowed down my metabolism and made me gain a lot of weight.
I hope this helps someone out there.
